Case of Mud Solidification on the Beach in the Guangdong-Zhuhai Bay Area
Mixed-Use

Information
A coastal development project in the Zhuhai Greater Bay Area lies on typical beach mudflats with extensive muddy soil layers. This mud has key properties: high water content, low strength, and high compressibility. Its bearing capacity is far below engineering construction requirements, demanding urgent hardening for smooth subsequent work.
Initially, the project evaluated traditional treatment methods. The soil replacement cushion method required large - scale transport of high - quality soil from outside, causing high transportation costs and difficulties in securing mud disposal sites. Meanwhile, the conventional on - site solidification method, relying on equipment like cement mixing piles, needed dedicated steel plate tracks. It also had uneven solidification effects on shallow mud and took several months—failing to meet the project schedule.
To address these issues, the project team introduced soil lithification technology and conducted on - site tests. The core solution used a specially formulated soil lithification agent for in - situ solidification. During construction, specialized equipment mixed the agent evenly with the mud; the agent’s components reacted rapidly with mud particles to form a stable framework. On - site monitoring confirmed the agent reacted quickly in dilute mud, completing solidification in just 5 hours—no extra equipment tracks needed.
The solidified mud met all strength standards, supporting subsequent construction machinery movement and infrastructure development. Additionally, 100% of the mud was recycled on - site, eliminating environmental pressure and off - site disposal costs. Compared with traditional technologies, this solution shortened the construction period by over 90% and cut material/transportation costs significantly. It provides a practical technical model for efficient beach mud resource utilization in the Zhuhai Greater Bay Area.
