Challenge
The project aimed to design and supervise the construction of a contemporary architectural landmark in Diriyyah that respects and integrates the rich cultural and historical heritage of the area. The challenge was to create a structure that harmonizes with the surrounding Al-Turaif World Heritage District while embracing modern architectural and environmental standards.
Approach
The design introduced a dialogue between the past and present, blending traditional Najdi architectural elements with contemporary forms. Two rectangular buildings were strategically positioned—one facing Al-Turaif and oriented toward the Qiblah, while the other engaged the main street. The use of triangular openings allowed natural light to enhance the interiors, ensuring a balance between sustainability, functionality, and aesthetic expression.
Impact
The project reinforced Diriyyah’s architectural identity while contributing to its evolving urban fabric. By integrating sustainable design elements and honoring Salmani architectural principles, the development set a precedent for future projects in the historic district. It successfully linked heritage and modernity, offering a space that resonates with both tradition and contemporary aspirations.
