Information

CNRE is a public–private partnership involving the Dutch government, knowledge institutes, technology companies, and solution providers.

The main aim of CNRE is to work towards achieving net-zero buildings in desert climates, initially during operations and later by addressing the emissions impact of construction materials. The CNRE programme aims to establish leadership in achieving net zero in desert climates drawing on Dutch expertise.

The CNRE programme stands out for its comprehensive, umbrella approach towards achieving net zero in real estate. From our viewpoint, reaching climate neutrality in buildings requires an integrated redesign of key components, including building-integrated photovoltaics (PV), cooling systems, smart monitoring, electricity and water systems, as well as architectural aesthetics, functionality, and occupant well-being.

This holistic approach, coupled with continuous international collaboration, makes the goal of net zero more attainable and effective — and is key to achieving sustainable real estate on a global scale.
