Information

The Dubai Creek Park Master Plan competition is a 21st-century interpretation of an old Middle Eastern settlement, an urban fabric derived from environmental and social factors. Inspired by human comfort and climate-oriented principles, the concept behind the design is to have a pedestrian-friendly district at a human scale with contemporary architecture rooted in local tradition. This climate-responsive design allows this neighbourhood to offer a different lifestyle along the creek. Located along the waterfront with views of the Santiago Calatrava-designed Island Bridge, Dubai Creek Park is envisioned to be a sanctuary between the Dubai Creek Tower and The Island. The master plan recalls the traditional Arabic ideals where developments were defined using a network of cool and quiet barrahats connected by narrow sikkhats. This creates a humane urban realm shaded by the buildings and forms an environment that enhances the vision of Sanctuary Gardens: to combine the best aspects of city living and the privacy of garden living within the natural contours of the creek. This approach places particular emphasis on creating interlinked open spaces that connect residents to retail, dining and community facilities on pathways that lead to the waterfront. Interlinked courtyards can be navigated along cool shaded colonnades lined with boutique shopping, cafés and restaurants. This sequence of public squares leads visitors to discover the terraces stepping down to the waterfront. Each is filled with places to dine, chat and relax all overlooking the Creek.
