The Arena at Diriyah

Information
Celebrating History, Culture and Legacy.
The 20,000-seat arena draws on the compelling narratives of the Najdi architectural tradition. Colours have been derived from the geology of the land and stone taken from the ground of the site itself. Forms are monolithic, stepped and shaped so that they echo both monumental rock formations and the historic Najdi fortresses. Textures vary according to proximity to the ground, transitioning from rugged to refined. The iconic triangle motifs are developed and extrapolated in a contemporary manner to give character and identity to the wall surfaces.
Architectural lighting actively expresses the mood of the building at any given moment, meaning that it can pump out energy during a major event, act as a natural beacon within the public realm, or just relax during quiet moments. Digital Media is seamlessly integrated with the physical fabric and lighting scheme. The Digital Waterfall elements create a three-dimensional canvas for light and digital content. This is experienced externally as signage or display, or from within as a digitally immersive environment.
